As we step into September, we join the national conversation around Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month—a time to raise awareness, educate women, and encourage proactive health care.
Ovarian cancer is often called the “silent killer” because its early symptoms can be subtle and easily overlooked. Yet, when detected early, treatment outcomes improve significantly. At our practice here in St. Louis, we believe knowledge is power—and awareness saves lives.
Know the Signs While symptoms vary, common early warning signs may include:
Bloating that doesn’t go away
Pelvic or abdominal pain
Difficulty eating or feeling full quickly
Frequent or urgent need to urinate
If you experience these symptoms consistently for more than two weeks, it’s important to schedule a check-up.
Who’s at Risk?
Women over age 50
Those with a family history of ovarian or breast cancer
Women with certain genetic mutations (such as BRCA1 or BRCA2)
What You Can Do
Stay up to date with annual well-woman exams
Know your family history and discuss genetic testing if relevant
Pay attention to your body—don’t ignore persistent changes
