August is National Breastfeeding Month, a time to celebrate, support, and encourage the journey of nourishing little ones. Whether you’re exclusively breastfeeding, combo feeding, pumping, or figuring out what works best for your family—we see you. This month is a reminder that every feeding journey is unique, and support makes all the difference. At West County OBGYN Specialists, Dr. Laura Pignotti and Dr. Blase Pignotti are here to support you! Located in St. Louis, MO, we are proud to serve new moms and help them navigate this new lifestyle.

Why It Matters: Breastfeeding has incredible health benefits for babies—supporting growth, immunity, and development—but it’s also important to recognize the benefits for moms, from reduced risks of certain cancers to the bonding (and yes, sometimes patience-stretching) moments it brings.

A Few Reminders for Moms:

  • Hydration is your new best friend. (If you thought pregnancy thirst was intense, meet breastfeeding thirst. Always keep that water bottle handy!)

  • It’s okay to ask for help. Whether it’s a lactation consultant, your OBGYN, or just a friend to bring snacks while you’re cluster feeding, support is key.

  • Give yourself grace. Breastfeeding isn’t always picture-perfect—it can be messy, frustrating, and even funny at times. What matters most is that your baby is fed and you feel supported.

And here’s the most important part: All moms are superheroes. Even if breastfeeding didn’t go as planned—or wasn’t the right fit for you—you’re still showing up, loving, and caring for your baby in the way that works best for your family. That makes you amazing, no matter what feeding method you use.

This month, let’s celebrate the strength, resilience, and love that moms pour into feeding their little ones—because no one ever said it was easy… only that it was worth it.
