Gratitude in Every Season

As a St. Louis area OBGYN, I spend my days surrounded by beginnings—first heartbeats on an ultrasound, first breaths in a delivery room, and the first moments families meet someone they’ve been waiting months to hold. It’s a privilege that never loses its awe. And each year, as Thanksgiving approaches, I find myself reflecting on the unique forms of gratitude woven throughout the work we do in women’s health and prenatal care.
The Quiet Gratitude in the Waiting
Pregnancy is a journey defined by anticipation, and for many patients, it’s also a time of vulnerability. I’m grateful for every person who trusts me as their OBGYN in St. Louis, bringing me their questions, hopes, and fears. That trust is an honor I don’t take lightly.
There’s gratitude in the small, quiet moments—hearing a healthy heartbeat after a scare, watching an anxious new parent relax during a routine visit, or sharing a laugh while discussing a birth plan. These moments remind me how meaningful it is to support patients through every stage of obstetric and gynecologic care.
Gratitude for the Strength of Patients
Every day, I witness extraordinary strength. I see it in laboring patients digging deep for the next push, in families navigating loss with courage no one should ever have to summon, and in individuals making empowered decisions about their bodies and futures.
Thanksgiving invites us to honor resilience, not just joy. In my practice as a women’s health provider in St. Louis, I’m grateful for the strength my patients show in every chapter—the triumphant ones and the tender ones.
Gratitude for the Team Behind the Scenes
OB-GYN care is never a solo act. It’s the nurses who anticipate needs before anyone speaks. The midwives who bring calm and confidence into each room. The anesthesiologists who show up at 3 a.m. with steady hands. The front desk staff who greet patients with kindness on days when it makes all the difference.
Each person plays a vital role in the stories that unfold in our clinic and hospital. This Thanksgiving, I’m especially grateful for the teamwork that makes comprehensive women’s health services in St. Louis possible.
A Season to Pause
Thanksgiving reminds us to slow down—something easier said than done in medicine. But even in the busiest weeks, it’s important to pause and acknowledge the meaning behind the work. The privilege of caring for others is never lost on me, even when the days are long, the nights are short, or the paperwork seems endless.
Gratitude for New Beginnings
To every patient who has allowed me to stand beside them in one of life’s most transformative experiences: thank you. You remind me daily why I chose this field. Your stories stay with me—every birth, every challenge, every triumph.
As we gather around tables this Thanksgiving—some large, some small—I hope you find moments of peace, joy, and connection. And if you’re in a season of waiting or uncertainty, I hope you feel supported, seen, and surrounded by compassionate OBGYN care in St. Louis.
From our family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving—may this season bring warmth, health, and gratitude in abundance. -Dr. Laura & Dr. Blase
